Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary Rock Sample Identification Cards
Description
Rock collecting is a fun hobby and great field of study for kids and budding geologists. This set of rock identification cards features 15 of the most common igneous rocks made by volcanoes and 10 of the most common sedimentary rocks made in oceans, rivers, lakes, and deserts. Also included in the set are 10 of the most common metamorphic rocks. Metamorphic rocks are the rocks that were igneous or sedimentary and change either physically or chemically by heat, pressure or hot, mineral-rich water. Each card lists the colors, mineral content, texture, common locations, and uses of the rocks. The metamorphic rock cards also tell you what type of rocks the samples was before the change.
The rocks included are:
- Metamorphic Rocks: amphibolite, anthracite coal, gneiss, hornfels, marble, phyllite, quartzite, mica schist, garnet schist, and slate.
- Sedimentary Rocks: arkose, bituminous coal, conglomerate, coquina, loess, fine-grained limestone, oolitic limestone, sandstone, shale, and siltstone.
- Igneous Rocks: anorthosite, basalt, carbonatite, diorite, gabbro, granite, monzonite, obsidian, pegmatite, peridotite, pumice, rhyolite, syenite, trachyte, and volcanic breccia.
These cards are perfect for homeschool, classroom geology and identifying samples in your home collection.
